What's our cosmic or evolutionary imperative? Is it preserving human dominance, or paving the road to greater understanding and manipulation of the universe, even if it means ceding control to superior artificial intelligence, rendering humans secondary?

These aren't mere theoretical musings or cocktail party chit-chat anymore. I clicked on an article (https://bloom.bg/3JP4TJc) intrigued by a mention of Universal Basic Income (UBI) resurfacing in headlines, but what riveted me was its concluding thought:

The expected response to the specter of superhuman AI would be caution or restraint. Assuming nothing is lost in translation or editorial rearrangements, the juxtapositions of the statements suggest a divergent philosophical core.

As pointed out in one of my previous posts (https://bit.ly/3OLEDSY), assuming a global consensus on AI ethics is naive. During the Covid pandemic, international coordination was practically nonexistent despite a unanimous end goal - controlling the virus. Climate change is another case in point. While there's a concord on protecting our future, there's discord on the immediate impacts and, indeed, no unity on policies. With AI, there might even be disagreement on the end goal, as many may not see the advent of far superior intelligence as a negative.

Japan and China are taking the AI bull by the horns with their targeted strategies. From dialogues about long-term self-sufficiency to mergers and product announcements, they underline this innovation race's global and intensely competitive essence. The article also broaches the socialization of AI benefits through mechanisms like Universal Basic Income, or UBI, which appears oddly incongruous amid fervent debates about inflation and bond yields. However, if AI triggers mass job losses as feared, the ensuing economic and political shockwaves could push UBI and similar proposals to the forefront of debate in major economies and markets. https://bit.ly/2TkW7b7 has a different, albeit dated, perspective on UBI's counterpart MMT.
